Are you a Spiritual Seeker?
Countless people through the ages have spent their lives seeking spiritual enlightenment and God. In today’s world, and with the advent of New Age spiritual teachings, there are many paths to choose from. Many ‘seekers’ over time become disheartened and tend to jump from one path to another, discarding one over another according to their likes and dislikes, or in accordance with their views of how they think reality is:
For whoever seeks God in some special way, will gain the way and lose God who is hidden in the way. But whoever seeks God without any special way, finds Him as He really is…and He is life itself – Meister Eckhart – German mystic 1260 – 1328.
The way of the ‘seeker’ becomes a way of life, attracted to paths and teachings that fit and reinforce their ideas of truth which in turn satisfies the ego…they see only what they look for:
Upon entering a new country a traveler noticed an old man sitting under a tree. He approached him and asked about the people in his land. The old man answered by asking, ‘how are the people in your country?’, ‘Oh’ said the traveler, ‘they are friendly, hospitable, and cheerful.’ ‘Well’ the old man said, ‘you’ll find them to be the same in my country.’ A few days later another traveler came up to the old man under the tree with the same question, and again the old man responded by asking how people in the traveler’s country were.’they are always in a rush, they have very little time for each other, and their main concern in life is how much money they can make.’ The old man shrugged and said ‘You’ll find them to be the same in my country.’ – Sufi story.
In order to connect with God and our deeper spiritual nature, which we sometime call Knowledge, we need to suspend our ‘reality filters’ and quieten the thinking mind. We enter into stillness where we can reclaim our Knowledge and our connection will God:
Formulate your own approach and you will stay exactly where you are. Choose a path that you did not invent for yourself and you will go somewhere you have never gone before, and you will find something that you have never found before. Let Knowledge carry you forward, not your preferences, ideas or ideals.
